    Responsibilities

    Responsible for journal entry preparation and general ledger account reconciliation including research, analysis and problem solving necessary to support the daily activity of the department. Works with limited latitude for independent decision-making and judgment within the framework of the jobs primary duties; identifies the severity of routine problems and makes timely decisions to resolve those issues. Required to use analytic skills and concepts to resolve unique problems in the absence of documented guidelines. General Ledger accounts assigned are often of low to medium complexity within the department and present a more diverse range of issues and data; requiring the application of more analysis and research.  Works directly with internal and external customer, vendors and other agencies to give or collect information, resolve account reconciliation / invoice issues, etc.

     

    • Responsible for verifying the accuracy of accounting information; assists with the research and documentation of financial fluctuations through the use of database systems. Inputs, sort, and manipulate data for reports using a database program; prepares spreadsheets used for analytical information and assist with collecting data from source documents, the creation and basic analysis of accounting reports. Limited diversity in the types of and analysis required maintaining assigned accounts.
    • Prepares journal entries and general ledger account reconciliation for assigned accounts of low to medium complexity managed by the department. Maintains an effective working relationship with internal and external customers, vendors, and agencies to ensure the prompt and accurate resolution of variances and discrepancies, account reconciliation and reporting. Informs and seeks work related advice from senior team members on unresolved and more complex customer and technical issues.
    • Performs data downloads and extracts, confirms data accuracy and prepares accounting reports for distribution and reporting. Establishes and maintains account information, manual filing systems and/or database systems that provide a quick reference database of records, department transactions, releases information, etc. according to company policies and procedures. Audits files at specific intervals to identify and purge outdated or unnecessary items and to ensure confidentiality of records.
    • Performs a blend of basic accounting duties in support of the corporate account consolidation process, such as tracking and reporting on the budget activity for special projects, assigned business units, vendors, services, etc., reclassifying journal entries, preparing invoice payments, currency exchange conversions, preparing and reviewing assets transfers, check request, and other transactions for appropriate approval authority.
    • Stays abreast of department operating and compliance guidelines, informs customers accordingly and ensure transactions processed are compliant; keeps management informed of non-compliant or questionable issues. Works closely with senior team members to ensure the timely and accurate implementation, communication and monitoring of regulatory, corporate and department compliance guidelines. Acts as a resource for assigned business units providing transaction and procedure related information.
    • Performs general administrative support and other duties as required.

    Qualifications

    • Associates Degree in Accounting, Finance or a related discipline and 2+ years job specific experience, or 3+ years job specific experience and an equivalent combination of education, and training that provides the required knowledge, skills and competencies to perform the essential functions of the job. Experience must include the following:
      • account reconciliation and analysis
      • data download and extract
      • Excel intermediate to Advance
    • Knowledge of basic accounting concepts, terminology and practices.
    • Ability to perform basic math formula calculations using a calculator and/or Excel
    • Proficient with PC and software applications such as Microsoft Word, PowerPoint, etc.
    • Proficient using department database systems such as JD Edwards, AS400, etc.

    • Ability to exercise good judgment, problem solving ability and resourcefulness in the absence of formalized guidelines and procedures

    • Ability to work independently, set priorities, handle multiple tasks with concentration speed and accuracy to meet deadlines
    • Ability to perform in a high pressure environment and/or crisis situation and render good decisions to resolve the problems, maintain safety and ensure adherence to Corporate Code of Conduct.
