Responsibilities

The Senior Support Technician’s primary objective is providing RedHat Administration and day to day support of the Mohawk Inc. RedHat infrastructure.

  • Level Redhat Linux Systems Administration experience with a desire to Cross Train in other technologies (AIX, HPUX).  
  • Solid understanding of Enterprise Linux and best practices.
  • Solid understanding of Red Hat Satellite
  • Solid understanding of Linux monitoring and tools.
  • Solid understanding of Linux security best practices.
  • Solid understanding of Oracle on Linux, including Oracle RAC.
  • Ensure backups are sufficient for complete system recovery (CommVault / Avamar experience is a Plus).
  • Ability to solve problems quickly and effectively.
  • Ability to calmly resolve high risk situations.
  • Knowledge of current technological developments/trends in area of responsibilities.
  • Ability to handle multiple tasks.
  • Work with vendors to ensure maintenance coverage for all relevant servers and equipment.
  • Utilize tools for continuous system monitoring of system resource utilization.
  • Be available 24x7x365 (via cell phone, home phone, etc.).
  • System maintenance including patching, upgrades, operating system fix installs, operating system upgrades and reboots. 
  • Follow Change Control processes.
  • Bachelor’s degree in Information Technology, Management Information Systems or related field a must.
  • Capable of Mentoring Junior Technicians
    • Work closely with Junior Technician and other team members
    • Includes writing of Training documentation and one-on-one questions and answer sessions with other department technicians. (Support Center, PC Tickets, and Projects Team)
    • Classroom presentation of new material
    • Reinforcement of basic foundational skills
    • Provides technical assistance and performs change control review to work output of junior team members
  • Strong Documentation and communication skills
    • Able to maintain living documentation
    • Explain technologies in a non-technical manner
    • Help to develop policy and procedure
  • Plans, conducts, schedules and provides technical direction to systems engineers
  •  Provide documentation for repeatable process

 

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in computer science, information technology, or related field
  • 5 or more years of Redhat Linux Engineering/Administration.
  • RHCSA required, RHCE preferred.
  • Experience with virtualization (Redhat and VMware)
  • Experience with Commvault suite a plus
  • Strong Experience is security administration, server software and utilities, and Active directory
  • Strong experience in application and user Documentation, Business Technology Integration, Business analysis, integration testing, project implementation, physical design, process modeling, and purchase software evaluation.

Highly desirable:

  • SAP on Hanna
  • EMC Storage (VMwax, VNX)

  • Strong analytical and conceptual skills, a demonstrated track record in new concept development for various projects and complex technical plans, and ability to solve problems involving remote and elusive symptoms often spanning multiple environments in a business area
  • Ability and willingness to accept responsibility, willingness to challenge established practices and draw relevant conclusions, including the persistence and willingness to take calculated risk, to stimulate market and sell new ideas within the organization.
  • Excellent human resource management skills to effectively lead and direct a diverse work group; to achieve results through team efforts, and the desire and ability to motivate, persuade and direct the activities of others
  • Organizational ability to redirect skills to support new technologies while maintaining current commitments; ability to perform in a high pressure environment and/or crisis situation and render good decisions to resolve the problems, maintain safety and ensure adherence to Corporate Code of Conduct
  • Ability to act as a managerial advisor on professional and technical issues with a view towards reaching strategic decisions; ability to manage conflicting demands for resources through negotiation
